Cath & Steve’s Wedding The Mansion, Roundhay Park Leeds
Finding the perfect backdrop for your wedding day is all about balancing elegance, history, and natural beauty. For Cath and Steve, that perfect balance was found at one of Leeds’ most prestigious venues.
As a Leeds wedding photographer, there are few places as inspiring to shoot as The Mansion at Roundhay Park. This stunning Greek Revival building, surrounded by 700 acres of parkland, lakes, and woodland, offers a breathtaking canvas for capturing love stories.
When Cath and Steve asked Howard Barnett Photography to document their special day, I knew we were in for something truly spectacular. Here is a look inside their elegant, emotion-filled celebration.
A Classic Leeds Wedding Venue: The Mansion at Roundhay Park
Nestled just a few miles from the vibrant heart of Leeds, The Mansion at Roundhay Park is a jewel of West Yorkshire. With its grand Ionic columns, sweeping staircases, and beautifully restored Regency-style interiors, it radiates effortless sophistication.
For Cath and Steve, the venue matched their vision of a classic, timeless wedding day. The light-filled rooms with huge sash windows are a dream for a documentary-style wedding photographer, allowing me to capture those soft, natural-light moments that truly reflect the atmosphere of the day.
Morning Preparations & Heartfelt Arrivals
The energy in the morning was a beautiful mix of quiet anticipation and joyous laughter. Cath wore an exquisite, classic gown that perfectly complemented the historic elegance of the venue. Surrounded by her closest friends and family, the room was filled with smiles, champagne toasts, and just a few happy tears.
Meanwhile, Steve and his groomsmen arrived looking exceptionally sharp, greeting guests as they made their way into the beautifully decorated ceremony room. One of my favourite parts of being a wedding photographer in Yorkshireis capturing these candid, unposed moments—the adjustment of a tie, a nervous laugh between brothers, and the quiet deep breath before walking down the aisle.
The Ceremony: Saying “I Do” in Style
The ceremony itself was a masterclass in intimacy and romance. As Cath walked down the aisle, Steve’s reaction was absolutely priceless—a moment of pure, unfiltered emotion that I was privileged to capture forever.
Bathed in the soft light pouring through the grand windows of The Mansion, the couple exchanged their vows, promised their forevers, and walked back down the aisle as husband and wife to a shower of cheers and confetti.
Golden Hour Portraits in Roundhay Park
After the ceremony, guests enjoyed drinks and canapés on the terrace, soaking in the views over the manicured lawns. While everyone was mingling, I slipped away with Cath and Steve into the surrounding parklands for some private portrait sessions.
This is where the magic of a Roundhay Park wedding really shines. We wandered down toward the beautiful lakeside, using the weeping willows and the historic Greek-style colonnades as our backdrops. Cath and Steve were complete naturals in front of the camera, entirely focused on each other. My goal during these portrait sessions is always to keep things relaxed and authentic, allowing couples to simply enjoy their first quiet moments together as newlyweds.
An Evening to Remember
As the sun began to set, guests headed indoors for a spectacular wedding breakfast. The speeches that followed were a wonderful blend of hilarious anecdotes and deeply moving tributes, leaving the room in stitches one minute and wiping away tears the next.
As the night drew in, the energy shifted to the dancefloor. Cath and Steve’s first dance was a beautiful moment, soon followed by a packed dancefloor as their guests joined them to dance the night away.
