A Classic Harrogate Wedding: Christ Church & The Old Swan Hotel

There is a unique kind of magic in a Harrogate wedding. As a photographer, I am constantly inspired by the blend of Victorian elegance and the stunning light of North Yorkshire. Recently, I had the pleasure of capturing a truly timeless day for a wonderful couple, moving from the sacred halls of Christ Church to the historic grandeur of The Old Swan Hotel.

The Ceremony: Christ Church, Harrogate

The day began at Christ Church, a landmark in the Harrogate community. The architecture here is a dream for wedding photography—the high arches and magnificent stained-glass windows at the altar provide a sense of scale that is hard to match. One of my favorite moments to capture was the bride’s entrance; the church was beautifully decorated with lanterns and white floral arrangements, creating a warm, intimate atmosphere for the vows.

The joy was palpable during the exchange of rings, and the natural light spilling through the windows highlighted every smile. It truly is one of the most picturesque spots in Harrogate to say “I do.”

The Reception: The Old Swan Hotel

Following the ceremony, we headed to the iconic Old Swan Hotel. Known for its history and its ties to Agatha Christie, this venue offers a sophisticated backdrop for a wedding reception.

We took full advantage of the hotel’s famous wooden staircase for bridal portraits. The contrast between the bride’s flowing white gown and the rich, dark timber of the staircase creates a look that is both dramatic and classically beautiful. Whether it’s a wide shot of the bridal party or an intimate moment between the newlyweds in the library, The Old Swan never fails to deliver.
