Wedding Venues Whitby North Yorkshire
As a place of beginnings with no little romance attached to it Whitby definitely qualifies as a fine place to be wed.
Those beginnings include what is very probably the earliest known poem by an English writer, Caedmon, who was a monk at the town’s abbey. The ships built in the town and the many voyages they made from the harbour count for beginnings too, and so – romantically and rather scarily – does the fictional arrival in this country of Dracula, and author Bram Stoker’s discovery in the local library of the legend that inspired his novel.
Whitby offers a fine and rather romantic setting for a wedding too, the sea stretching away on one side of the town, the North York Moors rising to form a backdrop behind, and the River Esk crossed by a splendid swing bridge cutting through it. The locally caught fish that surely must be fitted in somewhere in your wedding feast – be that haute cuisine or simply enjoyed from one of the wonderful chippies here – once included tuna, drawing the rich and famous to the port in the inter-war years for a spot of big-game fishing. Easier to get hold of nowadays than local tuna (and bringing a smile to the face of any kids attending) would be the lemon buns from one long-established shop that draws foodies from all over the country to Whitby.
